Help preserve a place of resilience, hope and new beginnings — for future generations to come.

Bonegilla Migrant Reception and Training Centre was the first Australian home for over 320,000 migrants between 1947 and 1971. For many, it was a place of uncertainty — but also of dreams, courage and starting over.

Touching the lives of millions, one in 20 Australians have a personal connection to the site.

Today Block 19 is all that remains of the original 24 accommodation blocks that once formed the largest and longest operating reception centre during the post-war period.

Open to the public by Bonegilla Migrant Experience, Block 19 and its original buildings stand as a powerful reminder of the stories, struggles and triumphs of those who helped shape modern Australia.

A National heritage-listed place, Block 19 is recognised as a cornerstone in Australia's migration story.

Your contribution to the Bonegilla Migrant Experience Gift Fund directly supports the important work of Bonegilla Migrant Experience by helping to:

  • Preserve Block 19, including its original buildings, memorabilia and artefact collections for public access, historical reflection and education;

  • Protect the site's historical integrity by maintaining the collections and conserving personal migrant stories and records;

  • Deliver engaging exhibitions, displays, tours and workshops that bring post-war migrant history to life; and,

  • Facilitate educational programs for schools and the wider community.

We appreciate all donations — with your help we can ensure that this vital chapter of Australia’s migrant history is remembered and shared for generations to come.

Donations over $2 are tax deductible and are issued with a receipt. Bonegilla Migrant Experience is a not-for-profit organisation.

You can make a donation in-person at Bonegilla Migrant Experience or online. For more information, please contact us.
